At American Vintage, 2017 is all about art! The brand has just confirmed its commitment for the next three years to the International Festival of Fashion and Photography, which takes place in Hyères every spring, with the creation of the “American Vintage photography award.”
For its 32nd edition, the festival – known for turning the spotlight on the best new talents in fashion and photography – now counts American Vintage as one of its main partners with the creation of the “American Vintage photography award.” An opportunity for Michael Azoulay, the brand founder, to expand his interest in young artists and take part in this must-attend event for fashion and photography fans.
Since its creation by Jean-Pierre Blanc in 1985 and over the years, the festival in Hyères has continued to grow until becoming what it is today: a wide-scale event open to both professionals of the fashion world and the public at large. At the end of the festival, winning candidates receive awards in three different disciplines: fashion, photography and fashion accessories.
For four days, the candidates’ work is presented during the fashion shows and exhibitions that fill the days of the festival. The beautiful geometric architecture and garden of the Villa Noailles overflow with designers, photographers and aficionados who come from all over the world to discover the talents of tomorrow and attend round tables and concerts. American Vintage is proud to participate in this stimulating and incredibly creative atmosphere with the “American Vintage Photography Award.” For this occasion, the 10 candidates preselected by the members of the jury must present a one-of-a-kind print based on a selection of American Vintage pieces. The 10 prints will be displayed during the entire duration of the festival at the Villa Noailles. The winner of the “American Vintage Photography Award” chosen by the festival jury will receive a prize worth a total value of 15,000 euros (of which 5,000 euros are awarded directly to the winning photographer), consisting of the commission of a fashion shoot.
This approach to support young artists is perfectly in line with the collaborations already initiated by the brand with French designers and artists, such as Margaux Keller, Inès Longevial, Baliboa and La Pantoufle à Pépère, not to mention its recent cultural partnerships with the Cannes Film Festival, Les Nuits de la Guitar in Corsica and the On Air program at La Friche in Marseille, as well as the Picto Young Fashion Photography Award.
This new collaboration with the International Festival of Fashion and Photography will also be an opportunity to give you a behind-the-scenes glimpse in our newsletter of the runway shows and exhibitions, and to showcase portraits of artists, such as the famous photographer Tim Walker, the president of the Photography jury this year. Stay tuned! It all begins on April 27, 2017 under the sunny skies of Hyères!
