A professional American football player, Anthony Mahoungou-Le Moigne started tossing the ball in his native city of La Courneuve, on the outskirts of Paris. After kicking off his career with the Philadelphia Eagles, he now plays for Frankfurt Galaxy and will soon switch to the Ottawa RedBlacks. Between two trips, he takes time out to talk to us about his relationship with sports and clothing, down to his weekend outfits
Hi Anthony, what is your relationship with clothing?
It has changed over time. Before, I focused on comfort, without any particular style, just sportswear. Now, I’ve balanced this with the image that I want to put out there. It’s kind of like the art of presentation. I have fun with colours or I keep it simple, depending on my mood and the weather. I like loose, baggy clothing so I can stay comfortable at all times. In a nutshell, I have to be able to move freely, but with a touch of elegance.
Your favourite piece of clothing at the moment?
A traditional Vietnamese shirt in black linen, a fine and lightweight fabric. It was a gift from a friend who went to Vietnam on a humanitarian trip. The material is soft and it’s perfect now that the sun is returning. It creates a contrast between the understatement of black and the brightness of spring.
What is a typical Sunday like for you?
It’s a day created for brunch with loved ones! A fun moment with a table full of food and endless discussions. And a movie or a game of chess to end the day on a great note. During football season, I have a game on the weekend, with one day that’s super intense and the other that is the total opposite, because it’s when I recuperate. I usually spend this day off reading manga, such as One Piece, Attack on Titan or Demon Slayer. Off-season, I go on little trips with my friends. It’s my only free time, because my week is always packed with practice.
Your favourite Sunday outfit?
It’s a look that reflects my serenity and my fun character, but also my dynamic athletic side. That also defines the American Vintage pieces I’m wearing: the cream shirt is loose and soothing, the white T-shirt is soft and bright and the khaki trousers stand out with their calm attitude: a quiet force. The AMV wardrobe is subtle and elegant. It’s simple yet on-point, which is how I could be described too!
