For animal lovers: Dyrehaven

2,000: that’s how many deer roam freely in this park that looks more like the grounds of a small palace. Throw a blanket on the grass, relax and snack on a pølse (Danish hot dog).

For urbanites: Superkilen

You won’t believe your eyes. Instead of lush nature, this area is all about flamboyant architecture. Set up in the centre of Copenhagen, this urban park is divided into three zones: the “red square”, to practice skateboarding; the game room, for people who love board games; and the green park, perfect to picnic and bask in the sun.

For floralistas: Landbohøjskolens Botanical Garden

Calling all botany lovers: the Landbohøjskolens garden contains no less than 6,000 varieties of plants, each more colourful than the last. After picnicking near the pond and admiring the lily pads, try to find the tree with the human face (kind of like Grandmother Willow in Pocahontas).

For adventurers: Bellevue Strand

Visiting Copenhagen also means being able to switch from city to seaside in a snap. After chilling on a towel at the beach for a few hours, head inland to discover the sublime Bellevue Teatret, designed by Danish architect Arne Jacobsen.

For chic tourists: Østre Anlæg

Nestled between the Statens Museum for Kunst and Oslo Plads, Østre Anlæg is the perfect place to enjoy nature and stroll along the water’s edge in the shade of the trees. There are benches galore throughout the park, making this ideal for anyone who hates picnicking on the grass.
