Summer isn’t over: our guide for a last-minute weekend getaway

Don’t despair: the summer holidays aren’t (quite) over yet. For those of you getting a late start, or anyone who needs a little more R&R, here are 3 perfect destinations, just a train ride away from Paris.

Destination #1: Arles

Ah, the south of France. The cicadas, the smothering heat, the siestas. Welcome to Arles, which transforms into a photography mecca every year during Les Rencontres de la Photographie, an event you won’t want to miss. While you’re there, you can eat at Inari, a restaurant opened in 2022 by chef Céline Pham, visit the Fondation Vincent Van Gogh or explore the inland area near Baux-de-Provence.

Inari — 16 Place Voltaire, 13200 Arles
Fondation Vincent Van Gogh — 35 Rue du Dr. Fanton, 13200 Arles

Destination #2: Brittany

Head to Carnac and La Belle Folie with its “chalet sculptures in the forest”. An idyllic setting, just a short distance from the Presqu’île de Quiberon, where you can really unwind. The perfect place to chill by the sea. All you have to do now is choose which book(s) you’ll take with you.

Destination #3: Hamburg, Germany

Urban travellers will be delighted to learn that Germany is only a hop, skip and a jump away from Paris (by train). And more specifically: Hamburg, which overflows with cultural activities and day trip options. To make the trip truly special, book a table at Lakeside, a restaurant with two Michelin stars and a sweeping view of Alster Lake.
