From April 27th to May 1st, the jury of the International Festival of Fashion and Photography in Hyères, presided over by British photographer Tim Walker, will meet to select the winner of this 32nd edition. This year, the festival inaugurates the American Vintage photography award. An opportunity for us to reveal the 10 finalists from 9 countries, whose work shakes up photography codes, each in its own way.

With his series Young Dubliners, this Welsh documentary photography student elegantly captures the daily life of Irish youth with a focus on identity and multiculturalism themes. An autobiographical and universal vision.

Lucie Khahoutian

This Franco-Armenian photographer presents the surrealist world of her photographic digital collage work in Hyères. A delicate mix of traditional imagery and a contemporary esthetic that questions the role of women in Armenia.

Luis Alberto Rodriguez 

Corporal dissolution, kinetic destructuring and exploration of shape and movement. This American photographer and trained dancer delivers a moving and hypnotic series of photographs.

Paul Rousteau

This graduate of the Vevey School of Photography questions reality and aims to unveil the invisible. Blurring, layering and the juxtaposition of colors are some of the processes used in his poetic and vibrant work.

Themba Mbuyisa

This self-taught South African photographer shoots what he sees around him. Family portraits, landscapes, the streets of Johannesburg… A spontaneous vision wavering between youth and faith, tradition and the new generation.

Nolwenn Brod

The approach of this young French photographer is steeped in sensuality and romanticism. In her shots, nature melds with the body, while models blend into the landscapes.

Cordula Heins and Caroline Speisser

This German photographer duo gives a twist to objects, plays with characters and doesn’t hesitate to think outside of the box. The two women dream up very precise scenarios to denounce the current immigration situation and the role given to migrants.

Sofia Okkonen

This 31-year-old Finnish photographer presents her Rose series. Tender, meticulous portraits that seem timeless, but with an underlying critique of the standard vision of femininity.

Roos Quakernaat

This young Dutch artist, a graduate of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, offers her own take on fashion codes, interpreting a guide to women’s etiquette in her series presented in Hyères. Playful photography that strikes just the right note.

Nancy Newberry

Majorette uniforms, cheerleaders, proms… This Texas-based American photographer skillfully spotlights the clichés of middle-class America.
