“No additives. No oils. No sugars. No lies.” That’s the mantra of this restaurant that champions healthy yet delicious food. On the menu: dishes prepared from seasonal ingredients, with a special focus on textures. For example: energy balls, gourmet bowls (like the Protein Bowl with hummus, spinach, kale, pumpkin, celery root, Jerusalem artichoke pickles and Brazil nuts), crisp toasts and fresh-squeezed juices. All in a modern, brutalist setting.

Make a stop in the world’s metropolises and you’ll quickly realise that museum bars and restaurants should not be overlooked. Case in point: Rooftop Flores, set up on top of the Museum and Church of Misericórdia do Porto (MMIPO). Don’t miss the famous torrada portuguesa, a local cheese platter, sandwiches to eat there or to go and desserts that are each more incredible than the last. Bonus: the unblocked view of the city.

A brunch: Negra Café

This is the place to be at noon on Sunday. In one of the three locations in Porto, savour a gourmet brunch in a warm and cosy setting. Be sure to arrive early, because reservations are not accepted. When the weather is nice, grab a table on the outdoor terrace and get ready to unwind!

An ice cream shop: Portuense

If you’re imagining a typical ice cream shop that you might find anywhere on holiday, you’re in for a surprise. The menu contains very few choices (everything is artisanal), but with flavours that are very unusual – and seasonal. Ice cream lovers have been delighted to try pineapple-basil, coffee-sesame and avocado-lemon, for example. To enjoy in a cone or cup, in the shop or to go in the nearby Jardim Marques de Oliveira.

Visit American Vintage in Porto

“Porto is a perfect city to enjoy excellent food and sublime sunsets. You can visit the whole city in just a few days. There are tons of hidden spots with breath-taking views. And the bonus is that we have lots of green spaces, where you can relax and have a stroll, even inside the city. Come visit us in spring or winter to avoid the wind, which can be a little intense!”
