Summer ends

Let’s head to Spain! First, I’ll take you to Andalusia to test their famous chilled tomato soup. Then, we’ll stop amongst the olive trees to talk about the benefits of olive oil. Finally, we’ll wind our way through the most beautiful European golf courses and relax in some hot springs.

Recipe for Andalusian gazpacho for 4 people:

– 500 g peeled and chopped organic tomatoes  – 2 chopped red peppers
– 1 peeled and diced cucumber
– 2 slices wholegrain or white bread
– 1 crushed garlic clove
– 1 pinch salt and pepper
– 2 tbsp olive oil
– 2 tbsp sherry vinegar

Soak the bread in water and squeeze dry. Put the tomatoes, cucumber, garlic and peppers into a blender and mix. Add the salt, pepper, olive oil, vinegar and bread. Mix again to obtain a smooth preparation or strain.  Chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour. Now it’s ready! Add a few leaves of fresh basil and enjoy.

Spotlight on health: olive oil.

The benefits of olive oil have been renowned since Ancient Times, when it was already being used for its therapeutic properties. The olive branch was the symbol of Peace and Victory during the Roman civilization. Olive oil was used to ease the muscles after physical exertion and to heal wounds and illnesses during the Olympic Games in Ancient Greece. The Egyptians used olive oil to perfume their baths, but also to nourish and moisturize their skin. Rich in Omega-9, antioxidants, unsaturated fatty acids and oleic acid, the olive is the essential and star element of Greek cuisine. Anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-cholesterol… The olive delivers numerous benefits, notably by bolstering the immune system.

To choose a high-quality oil, opt for virgin or extra-virgin olive oil, which is obtained using mechanical cold-pressing processes. Organic or AOP-label products will ensure real flavor and maximum benefits and will guarantee environmentally friendly and pesticide-free olives.

Spotlight on relaxation: hot springs.

Water is the essential element of life. Hot springs are magic potions offered to us by Nature herself. These waters have abundant therapeutic properties, which vary according to the geographic location and the soil composition. Most often, you will find waters that are rich in sulfur, bicarbonate, magnesium, silica and thermal plankton, which are said to have beneficial effects on your osteoarticular system, respiratory system and skin. A relaxing moment as prevention or as a medical treatment. Don’t hesitate to dip into these naturally hot waters and enjoy Jacuzzis and other hydromassage baths. In Europe, it’s easy to find some of the best baths and thermal springs in the world. If you’re in Galicia, try the Outariz hot springs. This world-famous spot boasts springs with different temperatures, free of charge. The perfect place to take a break, on your own or with your family.

Spotlight on sports: golf.

Both the Netherlands and Scotland claim to be the homeland of golf, which was initially the sport of kings and the haute bourgeoisie. At the time, players used curved sticks to hit leather balls filled with feathers. Since then, golf has become democratized. The ball is harder and the sticks have been replaced by clubs of different sizes and shapes. Anyone can play now, but regular practice can only be enjoyed by the wealthy.

Although many people may think otherwise, this is a very complete and physical sport.

It calls for extreme concentration, agility, strength and explosiveness with the ultimate aim of getting your ball as close to the hole as possible. A golfer’s outfit is always very elegant. A polo shirt, pants, cap, leather gloves and special shoes with small cleats under the sole to aerate the greens: the essential get-up to set foot on the best courses in the world. If you like to exercise while looking smart and classy, then this sport was made for you!

Spain is the leader of European golf tourism. Slip into your outfit and show us your best swing in one of the 500 golf courses scattered across the country.

Spotlight on cosmetics: olive oil.

Is your hair dry, brittle and damaged?

Why not try an olive oil mask? Once a week before going to bed, apply olive oil to the lengths and ends of your hair. Avoid your scalp or it will become oily. Then, tie up your hair and wrap it in a towel all night long. In the morning, wash your hair twice with mild shampoo to remove any remaining oil. Your hair will regain its softness and shine. Rehydrated, it will grow stronger week after week.
