Herb Ritts, “En pleine lumière” (“In Full Light”) at the MEP (Maison Européenne de la Photographie)
David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Mick Jagger, Richard Gere, Nicole Kidman and, of course, Madonna, who practically used him as her official photographer… All the big names posed for Herb Ritts. His iconic black-and-white photos of the 80s and 90s, along with a selection of other work, grace the walls of the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in the Marais neighborhood of Paris.
“In Full Light” unites the most beautiful shots by American artist Herb Ritts, who passed away in 2002. His gorgeous, sensual, glamorous and contrasting black-and-white photographs allowed him to elevate fashion photography to an art form. His vision was inspired by the natural elements around him: the wind, light and land of California, endless horizons, immense spaces… as well as women’s and men’s bodies, faces and clothing.
Lightness and strength united to transform his models into living statues and his photographs into legendary images of pop culture, from Madonna’s True Blue album cover to the famous photo of David Bowie, not to mention the portraits of Jack Nicholson and Naomi Campbell.
