Audrey joined the American Vintage team a year and a half ago and is now Store Manager at the Marseille Prado store. Today, she shares one of her most treasured recipes with us: “I’m from the Burgundy region, so I just had to share one of my grandmother’s savoury recipes. It’s a family favourite and sparks so many memories for us. I’ve prepared it with the other women in my family, year after year, for big get-togethers and aperitifs. It’s a simple, generous crowd-pleaser. Simply put, it’s always a great addition to the table.”

Ingredients for about 20 gougères (French cheese puffs)

250 ml water
100 g butter
150 g flour
3 eggs
A large piece of Comté cheese, cut into small cubes
Grated Gruyère cheese

Preparation

1 — Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F).
2 — Heat the water and butter in a big pot until the butter melts.
3 — Remove from heat, add all the flour at once and stir quickly until obtaining an even-textured dough.
4 — Let cool for a few minutes, then add the eggs one by one, mixing well each time.
5 — Add the small cubes of Comté to the dough and stir gently.
6 — Form small balls with a spoon or your hand and put them on a baking tray covered with baking paper, making sure to leave space between them.
7 — If you wish, sprinkle the top of the gougères with grated Gruyère for a tastier result.
8 — Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until the gougères are golden and puffy.
9 — Serve warm for an aperitif or a big get-together. Enjoy!

A tip when making this recipe at home? “You can personalise this recipe to your heart’s desire! Add the cheese that you like, spices, or any other ingredient that strikes your fancy: it will always be delicious and fun to eat.”
