Four years ago, Arthur and Driss opened their first cheese shop in the centre of Marseille. Before inaugurating a new Meulerie in September, the duo takes time out to tell us about their sunny and scrumptious business.

How was La Meulerie created?
Driss – It all started with a wild dream and a passion for cheese. When I first talked about it to Arthur about four years ago, he jumped at the idea.
Arthur – I wanted it to be more than a simple cheese shop. I wanted to create a whole universe.
You sell cheese, but more than that …
We sell cheese, above all — local cheese, cheese from the south of France and elsewhere too. 80% of our products are French. We also have some amazing finds from Italy, England and even Spain! But that’s not all. We also sell snacks, like our famous grilled cheese sandwiches, and about 30 types of hot sauce. We even created our own, developed with the brand Molho Molho.

Tell us about your relationship with American Vintage!
For us, collaborating with this Marseille-based brand was a dream come true. We share so many values: our sunny side, of course, but also our friendly attitude. Today, we’re delighted to dress all our teams in FIZVALLEY T-shirts and aprons from the brand. We even went one step further: we collaborated on two tees that will be sold in our shops and on our website.
What are your dreams for the future?
Besides having the Spice Girls sample our cheese? Maybe sharing the sunny Marseille that we know and love with more people around the world. And opening up La Meulerie shops next to every American Vintage store. We can’t wait to celebrate our 20th birthday with as much pizzazz.
